Male yeast infections- An overlood disease today

November 9th, 2009 by Mara

The understanding of male yeast infections is not clear and often an overlooked disease today. Most men will never be aware that they have had any sort of infection because it is very difficult to detect since the male body is so different from the female body. A man will have no idea he has this problem until it leads to other health issues.

Most people believe that only women get yeast infections, but that is just not true. Men do get them too. The causes of yeast infections in men are the same as any other fungus infection. The balance of good bacteria to yeast becomes unbalanced and allows yeast fungi to grow and spread throughout the body. Those men with prolonged antibiotic use, diabetes or a weakened immune system are more prone to yeast infections.

The overuse of antibiotics and sometimes even regular use can cause this infection. Antibiotics are taken to kill off bad bacteria but sometimes will kill good bacteria that the body needs. This causes an imbalance in the body and encourages the growing of bacteria that produces yeast.

High levels of stress may also cause yeast infections. A life full of stress can change the hormones in your body, resulting in the infection. This same change in hormones is the main factor that causes yeast infections in menopausal or pregnant women.

The most common symptoms of yeast infections in males are bad breath, frequent diarrhea, loose stool, sexual dysfunction, mood swings, fatigue, memory less, jock itch, and prostate problems. Many males will also develop cravings for sweets, chips and pasts.

Most male yeast infections can be treated with an antifungal treatment bought over-the-counter. This medication is applied directed to the infected area for a week twice a day. It is recommended if it does not go away, or recurs often, to see your doctor.
