Treating Yeast Infection

November 23rd, 2009 by Mara

Yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida. This happens when there is a disturbance to the interal balance of microorganisms in the body. By recognizing symptoms and causes, we can better understand treatment and prevention.

Types of yeast infection

There are several different types of yeast infection. There are over twenty different species of Candida. Any part of the body that is warm and moist is a likely place for yeast to thrive. In babies, there is diaper rash and thrush.

What are the symptoms

Yeast infection is characterized by itching and burning, particularity at urination. Signs of a vaginal yeast infection are characterized by a white discharge that resembles cottage cheese. The over growth of yeast irritates the area around the vagina, and can be very painful.

Babies can have oral infection called thrush. White patches on the tongue or in the mouth characterize this. Thrush can cause extreme discomfort in babies, causing them to be restless and fretful. A baby that has thrush should see a doctor for an appropriate medication.

Babies and nursing mothers who are taking antibiotics are more susceptible to yeast problems

What causes yeast infection

Taking antibiotics can cause yeast infection by destroying good bacteria and allowing yeast to multiply. A good hot soak in the tub after a days work is a good way to unwind. Just be careful about putting certain bath products in your water. The perfumes in soaps and hygiene sprays, or toilet paper that is colored or scented can increase your risk of yeast infection.

Frequent douching will also destroy good bacteria and allow an overgrowth of yeast.

It is thought that stress and lack of sleep can also bring on a yeast attack.

Yeast infection seems to increase in frequency as we age.

Treatment

Under normal circumstances, yeast infection is not dangerous, even though at times it is very uncomfortable and painful. There are several different methods of treatment. There are antifungal medicines in the form of creams, as well as oral medications that are taken by mouth.

There are over the counter products that are quite effective. Drinking cranberry juice and eating yogurt are also good preventive measures.

Prevention

Chances are you can prevent or limit bouts of yeast infections by being aware of what things brings on an attack.

Avoid overuse of douches, scented hygiene products and wear loose cotton underwear that keeps your skin dry.

Change out of damp clothing as soon as possible. Tight panty hose, leotards and pants can cut off airflow. Limit the time you wear these as much as possible.

Learn to handle stress and get plenty of sleep.

If your yeast infection keeps coming back see your doctor. This could be a sign of a serious illness such as leukemia, diabetes, or some other disease.

Olive Leaf Extract As Anti-fungal Agent Fights Candida

When our immune systems are weakened our bodies may become susceptible to fungal attack. Ordinary fungal conditions such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, thrush and vaginal yeast infections can take over and merge into one, all encompassing. Starting in the gut yeasts can easily overpower us, causing ‘yeast syndrom’ or candida.

Although there are countless conventional treatments against fungal diseases they still recur over and over again. Perhaps the proliferation of different treatments actually proves the point. If those medications really worked we would not need so many different ones!

When the ‘yeast syndrome’ takes hold the symptoms may be devastating. Chronic fatigue, recurrent vaginitis, skin irritations, headaches, depression, constipation and a myriad other signs of poor health my result.

Normally all the fungal organisms are in the system already, but quiet and in balance with the body. But if the balance of micro-organisms alters. For example by taking antibiotics (and thus reducing the amount of helpful gut bacteria), eating too many sugary foods (which allow yeasts to feed more and multiply more prolifically) or a weakened immune system due to poor health, stress etc. Any change in the balance of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ micro-organisms in the body can trigger an overload of fungal organisms and an attack of ‘yeast syndrom’.

Oleuropein is one of the most important compounds within the olive leaf. It is this compound which will really help the candida sufferer. Studies have shown that oleuropein has significant therapeutic action against fungal infections of various types. Athlete’s foot, toenail fungus and jock itch for example all respond well to treatment with olive leaf extract.

Generalised candida or ‘yeast syndrome’ is where the really spectacular results lie, since this condition is all encompassing and has such a huge impact on the whole body. A person’s whole state of well-being is continually under attack. Research in Eastern Europe (particularly Hungary) have shown huge benefits in daily olive leaf extract consumption for people with candida. After four weeks people with long term health problems reported complete recovery.

In fact the health service of Hungary and other Baltic Stat
1000
es regulary treat patients with olive leaf extract. Studies continue, to see how it may help different conditions too.

Since oleuropein has been proved to be an anti fungal agent it makes sense to use olive leaf extract (which contains a lot of oleuropein) to fight fungal infection.

When treating diseases the patients are generally given relatively high doses of olive leaf extract. For example two extract capsules three times a day might be prescribed for someone with generalized candida. Once the disease has been quelled, a regular small dose of olive leaf extract (such as drinking one or two cups of olive leaf tea a day) is advised.

The regular consumption of such a virulant anti-fungal agent will ensure the body does not again succumb to the distress of candida.

Treatment for Yeast Infections

November 21st, 2009 by Mara

Yeast infections are caused by a fungus scientifically named Candida Albicans. This type of infection occurs most frequently in the vagina and the inside of the mouth in the form of “thrush.” The best way to get rid of a yeast infection is with antifungal treatment, which you can buy over the counter at retail pharmacies, drug stores, or grocery stores. Yeast infections can be caused by a number of things including: fatigue, stress, hormonal changes during your period, antibiotics, and birth control pills.

There is an antifungal on the market called Diflucan (fluconazole), that is taken by mouth. It is given by your doctor. The other available treatments are administered vaginally. Lotrimin (clotrimazole), Monistat (miconazole), and Terazol (terconazole) come in vaginal tablets which are inserted into the vagina like a suppository. These suppositories are the most common method of treatment recommended by physicians. Each of these medications also comes in vaginal creams or ointments, but most women consider them messy. Since they add no more effectiveness than the easier to administer vaginal suppository, creams and ointments are losing popularity in the market.

If you are going to treat a vaginal yeast infection at home, there are a few things to consider. You must know the signs and symptoms of a yeast infection. Symptoms include itching, burning, and a thick, white vaginal discharge. If you have never had a yeast infection you should see your physician for proper diagnosis to be certain you do not have a sexually transmitted disease or an immune disorder. Over the counter treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant, have never been treated for a yeast infection before, or if you have recurring yeast infections even though you have treated them with over the counter antifungal medications.

Once you get rid of your yeast infection it is important to understand how to prevent a recurring infection. Avoid using deodorant soaps and creams that can irritate your vagina. Wear underwear that does not hold moisture in your vaginal area. Cotton crotch panties are best choice to avoid yeast infections because they allow breathing through the fabric. Keep your vagina dry after swimming or showering and do not sit in wet clothes.

Your diet is important, too. You should keep a healthy blood sugar level. If you have a high sugar or carbohydrate diet you could be susceptible to yeast infections. Foods to keep in moderation when susceptible to yeast infections include: pastries and baked goods, white flour pasta, dairy products, and heavy condiments. You should try to eat a diet high in fiber and protein. Chicken, nuts, and fish are all good choices for protein. Steamed vegetables and fresh garlic are great natural antifungals.

If your condition persists for two weeks despite antifungal treatment you should seek the advice of your gynecologist or family doctor.

What is the signs of a Yeast Infection and a Bacterial Vaginois? Is there any home remedies for the both?

Im having some discharge the is pale looking and frothy looking around the vulva area. I was doing a little itching and burning on yesterday but that went away. I have had a reoccurent of BV for the last 2 years and I had my share of yeast. Im truly stomp this time about which one it is and the method of treatment.I cant afford to go and see a doctor. I'm married and I dont sleep around neither does my husband, so I know that its not a STD.PLEASE HELP! HELP! Only serious answers please!!

What did people use when there were not any high tech medications to cure yeast infections available? You would be surprised to know that you can find more than one natural remedy for yeast infections. Most of these remedies can be done in the comfort of your own home. Even some of the remedies that we are going to go over in this article will help prevent yeast from attacking your body again. Make sure you always consult your health care provider before attempting to use any of the home treatments available.

Before we take a look at natural remedies for curing yeast infection, let’s look at what can be done to avoid it and what you can do to make yourself more comfortable if you should become infected. It is not recommended to keep your stomach empty of foods for a long period of time. You should also not just constantly be filling up on junk foods that contain large amounts of sugar. Eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. Along with your diet you need to have proper hygiene. Wash daily with either plain water or a soap that is not filled with perfumes and chemicals. Avoid douching and using feminine deodorant products. You can take a cool bath to help sooth an infected area or apply a cold compress to the area. And make sure to wear breathable clothing, such as cotton fabric.

Since vaginal yeast infection is the most popular type around we will take a look at remedies for that form. A natural remedy for yeast infection on other areas of the skin you can make a paste of garlic and apply it to the affected area. For vaginal yeast infection there are many suggestions as to what will work. Doing research it was found that almost every person has said that plain yogurt works to cure this condition and also thrush. Eating yogurt daily will help to prevent yeast infection. You can also apply the yogurt directly to the affected area. Some have said that inserting a tampon dipped in yogurt into the vagina will help clear things up. You can also create a “tampon” and put garlic cloves in it. You would insert this the same as a regular tampon and keep it in for overnight. Taking a bath that has apple cider vinegar added to it will help cure yeast infection. Make sure to pat dry the affected area after the bath to prevent it from staying moist.

A simple herbal natural remedy for yeast infection would be to wash the affected area with tea tree oil. You can find tea tree essential oils at almost any health stores. Using garlic is also an herbal remedy. Garlic was discussed prior in this article, but never mentioned that you should or could use garlic in your everyday cooking. This is a sure way to build up your immune system to be able to fight off any type of illness. Having a strong immune system will make it so your body can fight illnesses if they are even able to come onto, or into your body. Using herbal remedies are safe due to the fact that they are natural. If you have any questions or concerns you should always seek advice from your family practitioner.
